Mickey Reedy

Kitchen Operations Coordinator

How/why did you get involved in FEAST?

I started work as a waitress at 18, graduating to chef work a few years later, and haven’t deviated far from food since. I’ve spent many years working in community kitchens, local support projects and diverse settings from music festivals to school halls in the UK and further afield. My interest in food justice has evolved from hands on food rescue missions dressed as a wonky carrot to encompass many pressing issues prevalent in the nuanced world of food systems change. As a frontline worker in a London food bank, I saw first hand the debilitating effects of food insecurity on households and the wider community. Joining FEAST has given me the chance to be part of an organisation working to enrich people’s lives and strengthen communities with good food while having a positive impact on the climate and nature crisis.

Anything FEAST is doing that you are particularly passionate about?

FEAST’s nutrition focus helps shine a spotlight on unhealthy, ultra processed foods being diverted to charities. It’s so important that people who need a little help have access to high quality, nutritious food.

Hobbies and interests outside of work?

I’m interested in how stories are told through theatre and the arts. I will never turn down the chance to travel to a new place and never get tired of cooking and sharing food. Time in nature is really important to me, and I love a dip in the sea, a lake or a river.
