Farrah Mordecai
Marketing and Impact Coordinator
How/why did you get involved in FEAST?
I worked on a project in a previous job researching issues relating to food insecurity for a local council, collecting evidence to develop a strategic approach to tackle obesity and promote healthier eating. In this time, I was exposed to some of the deep-rooted issues of food insecurity and barriers that many people face in accessing healthy food options and became interested in dedicating time to this issue.
When looking for work in the food poverty sector I was put in touch with Hannah who told me about FEAST and at the time they were luckily recruiting for my role!
Anything FEAST is doing that you are particularly passionate about?
I admire FEAST for operating beyond traditional food assistance programme models - as it’s been said, we are so much more than just a meal! Our services empower vulnerable people not just with skills and knowledge about cooking nutritious food, but also improve mental health through building community and reducing social isolation. These outcomes help to increase confidence of our service users and move them up the food ladder, creating more sustainable, long-term impact.
Hobbies and interests outside of work?
I’m obsessed with food – cooking for and with others and eating of course. I also love to travel, most recently spending half a year in Latin America. I enjoy hiking, climbing, I do yoga and am constantly listening to musicBack to the team
