Volunteer with us

FEAST works with local communities to help the people experiencing food insecurity, and we strive to keep most of our activities volunteer led.  Learn more here about how your skills can be used in your community.

Volunteer opportunities

Cook

Our cooking sessions bring together volunteers from the community, joining forces to produce delicious, healthy meals. Together, based on the food we have in stock our volunteers decide on a menu and divide up the kitchen tasks between them. This could include food preparation, cooking, cleaning, packaging, labelling, and washing up. During dining or lunch sessions where users eat, our volunteers also serve up food.

Befriender

Our volunteer befrienders are helping us at a very exciting time. As we’re extending our reach by opening new communal dining services, you will be supporting our service users to feel more socially connected and less isolated. You will also have the opportunity to serve our delicious meals and ensure the smooth running of our communal dining session.

Delivery

Our driver volunteers are essential to FEAST’s services, collecting food for our kitchens and delivering meals to partner hostels and community centers. They also support surplus food redistribution to partner organizations, improving their access to nutritious food. You can help with your bike, vehicle, or as a registered van driver.

Remote

We have a host of various remote volunteering opportunities including fundraising, content, marketing and media roles (see current openings here). However, you're not restricted to the roles we're currently advertising. If you have skills or experience that you believe could be put to good use in a voluntary capacity, do get in touch.

What our volunteers say

Most people I volunteer with like Dean the Chef or Demetrits seem down to earth and fun to work with and anyone else seems a good team. Can have a little nice banta with them that I find helps with mental health 🙂

FEAST volunteer

The people I have cooked alongside have been very nice, I feel like I'm contributing to an important cause and I've found myself becoming a better cook which has been satisfying. Thanks for all the good work!

FEAST volunteer

I appreciate the trust you have in volunteers, without too much over-managing. The freedom and oversight we have as volunteers makes me proud of each meal we prepare.

FAQs

Do you have some burning questions? Here are some of the most common queries our supporters and volunteers have.
  • Where do the sessions take place?

FEAST kitchens are based across the London boroughs of Camden, Islington and Barnet. We will share the addresses once you complete your introductory call!

  • When can I volunteer?

We have volunteering opportunities every day of the week! For cooks, our sessions run Monday-Sunday, including some evening sessions. For drivers, we offer collections Tuesday-Friday every week. Remote volunteering is flexible!

  • Can I get involved in remote volunteering?

Yes! We offer plenty of remote volunteering opportunities, from marketing to media to fundraising. If you have a skill that you would like to contribute, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to speak with you.

  • What’s the process for becoming a volunteer?

First, you’ll need to book an introductory call with our Volunteer Coordinator. Here, you will find out more about the opportunities and the next steps to register. The registration process involves completing a quick form and, for cooks, food safety and hygiene training. Once you’re registered, we’ll get you in the kitchen!

  • How flexible are the volunteering opportunities?

Our volunteering opportunities are very flexible. For cooks and drivers, we ask for a commitment of 1-2 sessions per month as a minimum. It’s up to you to manage your own hours and book the sessions that works for you. Remote volunteers can be as flexible as needed, managing your own hours to complete the tasks set.

  • I want to volunteer but I have a disability. Can I still register?

FEAST is proud to be an accessible, inclusive charity. If you would like to support us, whether by cooking, delivering meals or volunteering from home, we would love to hear from you! We will always do our utmost to ensure that your needs are met, and we will disclose any potential barriers to volunteering with you.

  • Can I bring a friend or family member when I volunteer?

All volunteers must first complete the registration process before joining us in the kitchens or delivery routes. If a friend or family member would like to volunteer, please direct them to book an introductory call or put them in touch with us at volunteer@feastwithus.org.uk.

  • I’m under 18. Can I volunteer?

If you’re under 18 and would like to do some volunteering, you must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Your responsible adult should be a parent or guardian and they must also register as a FEAST volunteer. They must attend your volunteering session with you, though they don’t have to participate in the activities if they do not want to.

  • Are the cooking sessions led by a chef?

Most of our cooking sessions are led by a Chef or Kitchen Supervisor. However, we also run some volunteer-led sessions which are supported by experienced FEAST volunteers. You’re never on your own when cooking with FEAST!

  • I’m not an experienced cook. Can I still join?

Absolutely! You don’t need any cooking experience to be a FEAST volunteer cook. If you love cooking or would like to pick up new skills, and are comfortable being in a kitchen, this is a great opportunity for you!

  • I only want to do one day of volunteering. Can I still register?

Unfortunately, we cannot register volunteers for one day only. To be a FEAST volunteer, you must be able to actively participate in our sessions for a minimum of 3 months.

  • I’m from a corporate team. Can we join FEAST for a volunteering day?

Yes! FEAST offers bespoke corporate volunteering sessions where you and your team can join us for a few hours of cooking and/or delivering meals. This is a great team-building day and provides the opportunity to give back to your community. You can book a call with us or get in touch at volunteer@Feastwithus.org.uk
